Well well well! It’s safe to say that Inception is literally one of the best movies in the world! There’s so much to unpack but before I do that, we need to take a moment to appreciate how well the acting was, and how beautiful the cinematography was. As well as that, the music score was amazing! As soon as I heard it, I knew it was Hans Zimmer who produced it! That man is a legend.

So the premise of Inception is Dom Cobb (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is a thief who enters people’s dreams and steals their secrets from their subconscious. Although it was fun at the beginning, this lifestyle quickly transcended into something more sinister when his wife Mal Cobb dies, and from then on, his projection of Mal is what gets in the way of every heist he does. However, his chance of redemption is to perform Inception, planting an idea into someone’s mind, which is seen as impossible.

This film is amazing, to say the least, because in summary it is a dream within a dream within a dream. Inception is three levels in the subconscious, and it seemed impossible because there is a chance you can get stuck inside the dream for decades at the time.

Dom Cobb had once been stuck inside that cycle, yet he doesn’t give any details as to what happened, he just seems haunted by his dead wife Mal, who is only there to cause trouble.

At the start of the movie, it seems as though Dom allegedly killed Mal, and it’s the reason that he can’t see his children. Inception seems to be the only way to go back to them, and so he does it, with the help of a team.

So here’s the dream team! Dom (the professional thief), Arthur (Cobb’s partner in crime who manages and researches the missions), Ariadne (a graduate student who constructs the dreamscapes), Eames (Identity thief), Mr Saito (Japanese businessman who recruits the team for a job) and Yusuf (amazing pharmacologist who helps the team enter each level). Together, this team joined together to perform inception, and with each of their unique traits, it seems like it might be an easy job!

WRONG. It all goes wrong. I mean at the start it does. Ariadne stands out to me because she has just found out that the idea of entering other peoples’ subconscious is real, and acts like anyone else would, she tries to find out more! But by doing so, she encounters Mal, and decides to confront Dom about it.

It was very clear to me that Dom did have something to do with Mal’s death, but it wasn’t in the way that I thought. During their heist for Inception, it was revealed that Dom already performed Inception on her, and that they lived in that dream state for 50 years!! So when they went back to reality, she was convinced that they were still in the dream world, and jumped off a hotel building, which caused her death.

This just showed how dangerous it can be to implant an idea into someone’s mind, however big or small you think it may be, it still can make a huge difference for an individual and can lead to consequences. Mal is integral for Inception, because it reinforces that Inception can happen, but she’s also a reminder that if not done right, Inception will go wrong and the consequences are costly.

Anyway! Back to the main story, Mr Saito hired Dom and his team to carry out inception on Robert Michael Fischer, who is the heir to a huge business empire. The task is to put the idea into his mind that he shouldn’t take over his father’s company and should instead pursue something else instead.

Cillian Murphy was exceptional in this film by the way, I literally love him so much.

Moving on! I was surprised that Robert knew that entering other people’s subconscious was a thing! And I was so surprised when he actually defended himself in his own subconscious. However, this proved that inception would be harder to perform on him, because due to him defending himself, he ended up wounding Saito.

The problem with this is that Saito could end up being stuck in the dream world, because the sedative that Yusuf gave the team to perform inception requires more than a normal kick (such as falling back) to snap out of the dream state.

I initially didn’t like Saito, but he grew on me, so I was rooting for him! It’s safe to say that they all made it out, but they did have to go through a lot to get out. From different dream levels, to Eames’ identity theft in order to trick Fischer, it was clear from the start that this would not be an easy task at all.

But, Adriane helped Dom see that he had to let Mal go, that he wasn’t responsible for her death, and that he needed to let her projection go if he wanted to see his kids. So he does! Granted he should’ve done it before, but I guess with that kind of guilt, its hard to let someone go. Thankfully, in the end, they all ended up performing Inception, and Dom finally reunited with his children.

I feel like there’s so much more I could say, but this movie literally has so much to unpack that its unbelievable! I would honestly say go and watch it yourself because it really won’t disappoint!

I give this: A happy Wendy Williams meme
